George Ellis developed the Delaware in 1940. They were originally created to be a fast growing meat bird but when the Cornish Cross was created the Delaware just didn't compete. In my book they are a fantastic layer and table bird all rolled up into a fast growing chicken. My Delawares are the heart of my egg production. They are friendly, hardy and lay like machines. I initially decided to keep the Delaware because they are on the "Watch" list with the Livestock Conservancy so I have always felt I was doing my part to keep these birds around. My current breeders are from the Oregon Delaware Group and ChickCharney.
We hatch chicks from February 29th thru April 15th . The availability on this website is what we have ready to ship. All other times we hatch to order using the pre-order item. When you use the pre-order item we will contact you with an approximate ship date. All chicks will be vaccinated for Marek's.
Please do not combine hatching egg orders with live chick orders as the shipping is not compatible. Also note the minimum number of chicks that I can ship is 6 for them to survive. Please make sure your total number of chicks is at least 6 before checking out. It is possible to combine chicks of different breeds or varieties as long as they are available on the same ship date.
